Carbon Pulse has further strengthened its team of carbon market, nature, and biodiversity reporters with a series of new hires and internal promotions.
Its Americas team is the primary beneficiary of the latest recruitment round, with three new correspondents – Hailey Clarke, Sarah Sobanski, and Chris Ward – joining last month.
Sarah and Hailey are both based in Toronto.
Sarah’s main reporting focus is on climate policy and the voluntary carbon market, having after spent the past decade working and living in different regions across Canada as a politics and community journalist.
She’s covered energy stories from Alberta’s northern oil hub to Nova Scotia’s ocean playground with bioenergy and hydrogen.
Hailey covers climate policy and voluntary markets across North and Latin America.
She has previously worked for EcoSecurities, as well as the Parliamentary Centre NGO.
Chris, based in Calgary, covers carbon and clean fuels markets in North America and beyond.
Prior to this role, they were employed by project developer BMO Radicle, where they were most recently manager of global markets.
Chris has broad experience in international carbon credit development, from renewable energy projects to advanced nature-based solutions, with hands-on expertise spanning regulatory protocols and voluntary methodologies.
All three new hires will report to Toronto-based Americas Editor Joan Pinto.
Joan will be supported by three newly-promoted senior correspondents: Allison Gacad, Bijeta Lamichhane, and Graham Gibson – talented reporters who have all been part of the Carbon Pulse family for 1.5 years.
Allison will be the Americas’ point person for government and international climate policy, Bijeta will focus on North American clean fuels and compliance markets policy, and Graham will help oversee coverage of the voluntary carbon market, as well as support reporting in South America – specifically Brazil.
Joan will continue to lead Carbon Pulse’s North American compliance carbon market coverage.
In addition, Chris and Sarah will spend part of their time working on nature and biodiversity stories with Carbon Pulse Director and Co-Founder Stian Reklev.
The nature and biodiversity team will be fleshed out further in the near future with the hiring of a new full-time correspondent (see job posting).
APAC, EMEA
Over in Asia Pacific (APAC), Arshreet Singh, based in Bengaluru, India, joined the company last month to help cover South Asian markets and policy, including voluntary market developments.
Arshreet has a background in financial and energy markets reporting. He previously worked at Reuters covering NYSE-listed companies across the energy, mining, and solar sectors, among others, and was a staff reporter at Mercom, a publication focused on the energy transition in India.
The APAC team will be further strengthened next week by the return of Katie Kouchakji, a part-time journalist and sub-editor based in Auckland, New Zealand, after a period of extended sick leave. Welcome back, Katie!
Finally, in EMEA Brussels-based Frederic Simon will increase his focus on continental Europe as Head of Europe, while London-based Sara Stefanini oversee international, UK, and Middle East and Africa reporting.
Roy Manuell will continue in his role of EMEA Markets Editor based in Paris.
The three EMEA editors will be supported by four newly-promoted senior correspondents: Brussels-based Rebecca Gualandi and Emanuela Barbiroglio, Scotland-based Paddy Gourlay, and New York-based Alejandra Padin-Dujon.
They join Sub-Editor and Feature Writer Bryony Collins as EMEA’s five senior-level correspondents, while Helen Clark is a senior correspondent on the APAC team, reporting to APAC Editor Mark Tilly.
Rebecca and Emanuela will continue to focus on Europe, Paddy on the VCM, while Alejandra takes on the dual role of LATAM Editor and Senior MENA Correspondent.
With Carbon Pulse set to celebrate its 10th anniversary on Mar. 4, the new hires bring its headcount to around 35 people, with the company seeking to fill a handful of additional positions and make a number of major product-related announcements in the coming weeks.
