Thomson Reuters is to close Point Carbon’s Kiev office due in part to the country’s instability, and will relocate some operations to Poland while parting ways with a handful analysts, sources told Carbon Pulse.

Point Carbon’s Kiev-based staff were offered roles at Thomson Reuters’s operations centre in Gdynia, but only a few support or administrative employees agreed to relocate.

Around five of the Kiev-based analysts, who cover energy and commodities including carbon, power and gas, will leave the company by the time the office closes early next year, the sources said.

A Thomson Reuters spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

One source said the Kiev office has been closed occasionally over safety concerns linked to the ongoing civil war in the country’s east.

The source added that Point Carbon’s databases hosted in Kiev, which include those covering the CDM and JI, will also move to Gdynia, where Reuters has set up news and data analysis operations.

Thomson Reuters bought Point Carbon in 2010. Thomson Reuters Point Carbon still has offices elsewhere, including Oslo, London and Washington DC.
