The CEO of Budapest-based carbon and energy brokers Vertis died in a plane crash on Sunday, the company said in a notice on its website.

George Nedu, 31, was appointed CEO of Vertis in late 2014, having joined the firm in 2009 as a sales trader and rising through the ranks.

“George was full of vitality and fun, had a driving passion for life and lived it to the full. He managed to balance demanding professional challenges with a happy family life,” Vertis wrote.

“He was a wonderful colleague, mentor and friend to us. He will be sorely missed.”

Nedu, who hailed from Romania, built up Vertis’ activities in the Romanian market, was responsible for its structured products business and founded Vertis Energy.

Nedu held a pilot’s licence, and leaves behind a wife and three young children.
