We might just have the perfect opportunity for you. Our client is looking for a Thermal Energy Project Manager to facilitate all the technical aspects of portfolio of thermal projects across Africa.

This role would see you involved at every stage of the project lifecycle, from design to construction. Extensive experience with stakeholder engagement and negotiations with vendors, a detailed understanding of project proposals and other crucial documentation, and a keen eye for detail are must-haves for this role.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering field
  • Honours degree in mechanical or thermodynamic engineering from a reputable university

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 7-10 years of experience as a design engineer for thermal power plants
  • Proven track record of previous design experience for thermal energy projects in emerging markets for solid-fired power plants

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Business Development Teams to deliver complex decarbonisation solutions
  • Continuously update our client’s standard technical contract documentation with lessons learned
  • Review tender proposals and technical specifications
  • Identify and engage key vendors with the Business Development Team for each project
  • Prepare scopes of work and manage third-party consultants
  • Guide construction partners through company technical specifications and provide technical training as needed
  • Conduct site visits to assess project technical risks
  • Engage with clients’ technical teams to manage project delivery
  • Review detailed engineering drawings and documentation to ensure compliance with company and client requirements
  • Lead HSE and design safety reviews before final design approval
  • Manage technical project delivery with the Project Manager, including vendor and contractor designs
  • Oversee technical management of interfaces with split design responsibilities
  • Manage relationships and inputs from third-party technical consultants
  • Lead the company’s Technical Team on each project, ensuring compliance with PPA and technical requirements, and oversee QA/QC plans
  • Conduct regular site visits for technical compliance and manage construction partners’ technical teams
  • Assist the operational team in managing contractor/vendor technical liabilities post-commissioning
  • Assess plant performance to ensure compliance with PPA and contractor/vendor obligations
  • Manage O&M technical obligations of construction partners and third-party contractors

SKILLS

  • Embedded understanding of the technical and operational aspects of the thermal energy market in Africa
  • Embedded knowledge of heat and power projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly motivated independent worker
  • Passionate about decarbonisation In Africa
