As a Carbon Project Developer, you will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle of forestry-based carbon initiatives, from project design to verification and registration. You will work closely with landowners, forestry managers, carbon certifiers, and stakeholders to implement projects that align with carbon standards applicable in Germany and Europe. This is a dynamic role that requires a combination of technical expertise in forestry, carbon accounting, and project management.

We are looking for a Carbon Project Developer in full-time at the earliest possible date.

Position overview
As a Carbon Project Developer, you will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle of forestry-based carbon initiatives, from project design to verification and registration. You will work closely with landowners, forestry managers, carbon certifiers, and stakeholders to implement projects that align with carbon standards applicable in Germany and Europe. This is a dynamic role that requires a combination of technical expertise in forestry, carbon accounting, and project management.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead the development of carbon forestry projects, including feasibility assessments, project design, and implementation plans.
  • Collaborate with landowners and forestry experts to implement sustainable forest management plans.
  • Conduct carbon stock assessments, baseline studies, and monitoring of carbon sequestration potential.
  • Oversee the carbon certification process under standards like Verra, Waldklimastandard, or similar.
  • Prepare project documentation, including Project Design Documents (PDDs) and Monitoring Reports.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders, including certifying agencies.
  • Stay up-to-date with regulatory changes and market developments in the European carbon markets and forestry sectors.
  • Contribute to the co-development of standards in collaboration with other market stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects comply with legal and environmental regulations.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities and partnerships.
  • Develop cost estimates, budgets, and financial projections for projects.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in carbon project development, preferably in the forestry sector.
  • Strong knowledge of carbon markets, carbon accounting, and carbon standards.
  • Familiarity with forest management practices, afforestation, reforestation, and forest conservation.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for land-use mapping and carbon monitoring.
  • Excellent project management skills with experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Fluent in German; proficiency in English and/or another European language is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel across Germany and Europe as needed.
