GreenCollar is seeking an experienced Geospatial Analyst (GIS) to join our growing team on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to a Head of Portfolio, the GIS Analyst works with their peers on the design, performance and management of a range of environmental projects towards achieving positive environmental, agricultural and economic outcomes.

The GIS Analyst also works with their geospatial and technical peers on continuous improvement and innovation to ensure geospatial practices are maintained to a high level of technical integrity.

The location for the role is flexible. The position will be in our Sydney head office or remotely from anywhere else in Australia for the right candidate.

Specific responsibilities will include:
Generate insights, analysis and collateral
• Draw accurate and reliable insights from spatial data, supporting efficient and effective decisions relating to projects, regions and areas of interest
• Understand the appropriateness of available spatial data sources – including publicly available datasets, proprietary datasets, and qualitative data
• Understand, analyse and draw accurate and reliable insights from remotely sensed datasets such as Landsat, Sentinel and SPOT; bring together multiple perspectives on a project leveraging available quantitative and qualitative data
• Work with SQL databases and spatial web services to extract, upload, update and analyse relevant spatial information – knowledge of SQL language and ability to create new feature classes following the established patterns

Create high quality spatial outputs, leveraging data analysis and insights, including;
• Design and prepare maps, survey packages including but not limited to those required for project registrations, on ground surveys and project assessments
• Generate maps and mapping data sets for reporting, monitoring, and research for use both internally and externally by GreenCollar
• Assist with the preparation of data, reports, presentations, and/or responses to environmental project RFIs and audits

Identify, evaluate and analyse environmental project opportunities
• Employ a range of GIS interpretation techniques and software to analyse spatial and non-spatial data to identify potential environmental project opportunities under a range of different project eligibility requirements.

Design environmental projects
• Undertake and finalise the spatial design of environmental projects at different scales and across a variety of landscapes, in accordance with the project’s performance and trajectory, GreenCollar’s integrity standards, and legislative requirements.

Work with peers to continuously innovate and improve project insights, analysis and performance
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in data, processes, analysis and outputs; work with peers in geospatial, monitoring, R&D, field, and partnership roles to lead, contribute and/or apply improvements
• Ensure meticulous documentation of technical processes, contributing to the accuracy, reliability, and transparency of geospatial work
• Draft, review, and update / maintain Standard Operating Procedures with respect to geospatial workflows and deliverables when required

What we’re looking for:
• A tertiary qualification in remote sensing, geospatial science, GIS or physical science or similar with specific coursework or relevant work experience in remote sensing, image processing
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge and application of ESRI / ArcGIS and/or other GIS software
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge and application of LiDAR/Point Cloud processing
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge with image analysis tools such as ENVI version 5 or higher and/or SNAP
• Proficiency with programming languages such as SQL, R or Python
• Statistics and sampling design experience
• Experience in conducting research e.g., literature reviews and case studies
• Experience in process automation and integration
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced skills in Excel and Word
• Superior work ethic with drive and passion for positive environmental outcomes
• Excellent problem definition and solving skills that support effective solution development and decision making
• Demonstrated experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously, having the ability to prioritise workload and adapting to revised deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Clear and effective communication (written and verbal) to inform, influence and impact both technical and non-technical audiences
• Awareness of new and revised legislative and regulatory changes that impact existing and emerging project portfolios
