Currently, Blak has a number of very exciting and impactful projects on foot, where it is acting as the lead technical advisor to provide technical carbon, biodiversity, community and sustainability services. These include project development services for large scale carbon, climate, biodiversity and community projects being developed under Verra and other certification bodies, sustainability services for large agri business clients and carbon assessment. Blak is looking for an energetic, positive person to join our growing team. This position involves taking a lead role in drafting project documentation (such as PDD, PINs etc) other technical reports, as well as project management. The role will require coordinating and project managing internal team (such as social, carbon & forest technical, and biodiversity) to ensure that all internal deadlines are met and the deliverables are of the requisite quality as well as interfacing with external clients and certification bodies. In addition, the successful person will ensure that all project documentation and deliverables are delivered on time and to the requisite standard. The position may be filled by an intermediate or senior person, but must have a minimum of at least two years experience.
The role requires a high level of ability for writing technical reports including project documentation (such as PDDs, PINs, assessment reports etc) and sound experience in writing such reports, under a deadline and to a high standard is required. A high level of attention to detail is required.
The role does not necessarily require deep technical expertise as subject matter experts will deliver specific technical aspects. However, the role requires enough technical competence to manage, incorporate, summarise and ensure the delivery of such technical matter from experts as required into the required report / documentation. Technical expertise is certainly an advantage.
In addition to technical writing, the successful candidate will need to be able to work with and manage deliverables from a diverse team, therefore will need good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively and build good relations with team members.
Finally, the role requires the ability to learn on the job, and to continually upskill and adapt to changing standards, requirements and modalities, as the rules and standards around carbon, sustainability and nbs projects are fluid and always changing.
The role is remote, however some travel may be required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Educated to BSc/MSc level in Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Ecology, Biology or any other relevant disciplines. Or degree in law (LLB) especially environmental, resource management, litigation or public law background.
- At least two years work experience in related field, particularly experience in undertaking carbon and or NBS projects through the carbon project development cycle or undertaking equivalent assessments; or at least two years working in a legal or consulting firm.
- Fluent in English. Additional fluency in Bahasa Indonesia or other language is an advantage but not necessary.
- Excellent written and spoken communications skills.
- Fluent in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to produce technical written reports, and power points / presentations to a high standard. Competence in GIS is an advantage.
- High interpersonal skills and ability to work with, manage and interact with highly diverse team, and with team members that have English as a second language and different cultures.
- Focused, results oriented person with keen attention to detail.
- Able to work independently in an unstructured environment.
- Ability to think, be adaptable and learn on the job. Able to move forward in a fluid, often ambiguous regulatory environment that is constantly changing.
- Positive, high energy person that enjoys continually learning and upskilling.
