New Danish climate minister Lars Christian Lilleholt said his government won’t propose new policies to help meet a domestic goal to cut GHGs 40% under 1990 levels by 2020.
He said this would be too expensive for business and it would be enough to stick to existing policies that are due to achieve a 37% cut, the Altinget newspaper reported.
The Venstre government’s move has the backing from one coalition partner, Danish People’s Party, yet it is unclear whether the move will be backed by other partners the Conservatives, which were involved in drawing up the 40% goal.
If agreed, the move would not affect Denmark’s share of allowances under the EU ETS or EU-wide non-ETS goals, as the national target exceeded those ambitions.
