We are currently seeking a new Head of our Climate Policy Team (CPT), who will be responsible for leading the entire team.

The Climate Policy Team is engaged in a large and exciting variety of projects, among them our flagship project, “Climate Action Tracker,” and is continuously developing new research and applied policy projects. In its work, the team has a major focus on 1.5°C-compatible economies, energy system transformation toward renewables, and fossil-fuel phase-out strategies at international, national, sub-national, and sectoral levels. It tracks and assesses climate action at these levels, combining both qualitative and quantitative scientific and policy expertise, approaches, data, and models..

The team works collaboratively with partners across different projects and in different parts of the world and supports Climate Analytics regional offices in climate policy analysis, development and modelling. Examples of current and past projects are the Climate Action Tracker, National Pathways Explorer, coal and gas phase out studies at global and regional/country level. New projects build on these and earlier successful projects.

As the Head of the Climate Policy Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting the organization’s mission and culture. Your leadership and expertise in Climate Policy will be instrumental in developing Climate Analytics’ policy work globally. With our expanding regional presence through offices in the Caribbean, Africa, South Asia, the US, and Australia, there are ample opportunities for you to work across various regions, collaborating with impactful countries and sectors. You will also be supporting stakeholders globally, including emerging economies and developed countries.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Leadership:

  • Lead the implementation of CPT projects that contribute to and align with Climate Analytics’ five-year strategy, as well as our mission and vision.
  • Provide content leadership and guidance to CPT team members.
  • Actively contribute to the Management Team, providing strategic input and guidance for decision-making at the executive level.
  • Collaborate with and identify synergies across the other Climate Analytics content teams.
  • Ensure the integrity and overall quality control of CPT work.
  • Increase the organization’s profile in climate policy analysis.
  • Guide the development of existing and new methods and modeling tools.

Representation and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent the CPT and CPT-led projects at high-level events.
  • Represent Climate Analytics at conferences and during the release of publications/reports.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Oversee stakeholder engagement and communication, ensuring effective timing and management of interdependencies in communications.

Project Development and Fundraising

  • Identify new opportunities with existing partners and new partners in relation to climate policy.
  • Lead processes to develop new ideas, programmes and projects.

Lead Climate Policy team

  • Lead and manage the CPT.
  • Ensure that performance reviews are conducted fairly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Select, recruit, and train the team as required, taking into account gender parity and diversity objectives.
  • Create, foster, and role model a culture of respect and zero tolerance for discrimination, abuse of authority, harassment, sexual harassment, and sexual exploitation and abuse.
  • Ensure accountability for actions and perform duties in accordance with protection mechanisms and action plans, as expected by Climate Analytics’ policies, standards, and commitments.

Your profile

  • Excellent leadership and management experience, with the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to align team efforts with organizational goals.
  • Proven track record in interdisciplinary work, with a strong interest in understanding and addressing international, regional, national, and sub-national challenges to climate change policy
  • in both developed and developing contexts.
  • Graduate degree in climate-related fields, such as economics, energy studies, political science, social sciences, climate science, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in a leadership role, with proven climate policy analysis and thought leadership skills.
  • Solid understanding of quantitative and qualitative energy and climate policy analyses.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or project-based environment is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English. Additional languages are an asset.
  • Willingness to travel.

Terms: We are looking for a long-term collaboration. Currently, we can offer a two-year fixed-term contract, with the perspective of extension based on performance and funding
