- Wed 00:46Fuel to the fire – The wildfires that devastated LA earlier this year were worsened by climate change, according to the science journal Earth System Science Data's State of Wildfires 2024-25 report. The report found that climate change effects made the LA fires twice as likely and 25 times larger. One of the report’s coauthors explained that this is in part because climate change is influencing the rates at which vegetation grows and provides fuel for fires to spread, according to Yale Environment 360. In LA, for instance, uncommonly heavy rainfall drove the growth of shrubs, which turned into fuel when the region was hit by an exceptional drought.
