- Tue 05:30A Japan-based investment manager is exploring an initial $10 million investment across seven biochar plants in India to tap the country’s growing carbon removal sector, it announced on Tuesday.
- Tue 05:20Decarbonisation alliance - The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation and Development Bank of Japan (DBJ) Inc. have struck a five‑year impact partnership to speed up maritime decarbonisation using new financing models. The tie‑up combined GCMD’s pilot project know‑how with DBJ’s transition finance and shipping expertise. It is built on their earlier success with the $35 mln Fund for Energy Efficiency Technologies (FEET), the first retrofit fund to use a pay‑as‑you‑save model, where DBJ acted as lead equity provider and helped design the financing framework.
- Tue 01:20Canada’s forests are burning faster than its carbon market rules can adapt, leading developers, auditors, insurers, and Indigenous project partners to rethink how to manage fire risk – and what it means to promise decades of carbon storage when past fire patterns are becoming a less reliable guide to future conditions.
- Environmental groups and carbon market researchers filed separate briefs in support of the reversal of a US federal judge’s dismissal of a class action lawsuit claiming consumers were misled by carbon neutral marketing for vaping products.
- Tue 00:39California wetland carbon storage – The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California's Board of Directors has approved the construction and restoration of about 2,800 acres (1,133 ha) of wetlands and upland habitat in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. This is a part of a larger project to transform the Webb Tract, an island in the delta, from conventional agriculture to a multi-beneficial landscape designed to reverse subsidence and reduce flood risk, capture CO2, and enhance the local ecosystem for migratory birds and local species. As well, the construction and restoration of wetlands can generate carbon credits that can be sold in the carbon market or used to offset Metropolitan’s own emissions, said the board.
- Mon 22:28New member – Peru has joined the Aviation Carbon Market Pact, an international initiative supporting the supply of high-integrity carbon credits eligible under the UN aviation offsetting scheme CORSIA. In a LinkedIn post, the Ministry of Environment said the move strengthens the country's Article 6 leadership while helping mobilise investment and expand international cooperation on carbon markets. Peru's move follows Guyana, Madagascar, the UK, Zambia, and Zimbabwe joining the international pact last month. Through Peru's national registry RENAMI framework, the country allows projects to apply for Letters of Authorisation (LoAs) to achieve CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units (EEUs). The country recently authorised a cookstoves project to transfer emissions reductions to Switzerland, while several Amazon REDD+ initiatives are in the queue to enter international markets.
- Mon 22:25Live methodology – Certification body BioCarbon Standard has published BCR0015: Improved Livestock and Grazing Management, a new methodology for carbon projects based on regenerative livestock practices, it announced on Monday. The framework would issue credits to projects under BioCarbon's carbon programme that reduce GHG emissions and improve grazing management and soil health. The methodology's consultation period ended on May.
- Mon 17:41Dirk Forrister will step down as president and CEO of IETA after 14 years at the helm, the carbon markets trade body announced on Monday.
- Three carbon ratings agencies have confirmed they have made formal submissions to be regulated under the bloc's first dedicated framework for ESG and sustainability-related ratings activity.
- DACLAB joins Deep Sky – Canadian carbon removal developer Deep Sky will host DACLAB’s modular Kelvin Tower direct air capture system at its Deep Sky Alpha facility in Alberta, with commissioning expected to begin later this year. The unit is designed for commercial-scale, durable CO2 removal and will join other technologies being tested under Deep Sky’s technology-agnostic model, the firm said in a social media post.
- Mon 15:08France should develop a dedicated carbon removal (CDR) roadmap and introduce measures to stimulate demand if it is to deliver the roughly 22 million tonnes of CO2 of annual technological removals envisaged under its newly adopted low-carbon strategy, an industry association has said.
- Verra has launched its new registry powered by a global commodity insights provider, marking a transition to a more integrated user experience that it says meets the needs of the growing carbon market.
- Mon 12:06Benchmark ICE CORSIA futures hovered within the mid-$12 per tonne range last week, as bullish momentum from the European Commission’s Emission Trading System (ETS) revision announcement tapered off.
- A prominent official at a carbon standards body has stepped down, taking time off before moving elsewhere.Â
- A global inspection and certification company has acquired a validation and verification body (VVB) to expand its capabilities in verifying digital carbon assets and strengthen its position in global carbon markets.
- Mon 10:07A Qatar‑based voluntary standard has inked a pact with Bhutan’s Department of Environment and Climate Change to support the country’s institutional and technical readiness for participation in international carbon markets.
- Mon 09:47Wastewater OAE study - US-based non-profit Carbon to Sea Initiative has awarded $225,000 to a research consortium to assess whether OAE can be integrated into municipal wastewater treatment systems to improve water quality, reduce GHG emissions and support durable CO2 removal. Led by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, the project will examine technical feasibility, costs, climate impacts and policy considerations, with a final report to include modelling, lifecycle analysis and five global case studies.
- Mon 09:46DRC-France forest pact - The Democratic Republic of Congo and France have signed an MoU launching the Zero Deforestation and Degradation for Development (Z3D) programme, which will support forest preservation and sustainable local development through pilot projects financed and managed by the French Development Agency. The DRC will select the intervention area, with the programme focused on ecosystem-service payments, governance, transparency, and scientific monitoring.
