Green MSME boost - The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, jointly with the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry, has launched the Transformative Actions for Climate and Ecological Protection and Development project. The initiative is aimed at promoting resource‑efficient production, strengthening energy management practices, and supporting the development of a climate‑smart industry roadmap for MSMEs in the country. It will also help enterprises adopt sustainable business practices and access green financing opportunities, UN Philippines said in a statement.

Gains - Thailand-based digital services firm Ditto’s digital token tied to 400k carbon credits from a mangrove project rose on its trading debut on Thailand’s Bitkub exchange on Monday, opening more than 8% above its THB 1.20 ($0.04) offer price, Kaohoon International reported. The company had raised THB 480 mln through 400 mln tokens to fund the restoration and maintenance of 2,805 ha of mangrove forests. Ditto projects an average annual internal rate of return of 10% under its base case, rising to 20% in the best-case scenario, while targeting a minimum 3% return in the worst case, with carbon credit-linked payouts expected after the first four years.

You choose - Japanese petroleum supplier Kygnus has introduced an "eco-friendly" offering that offsets GHG emissions from fuel combustion using domestically issued J-Credits. According to the company, clients can select their preferred offset percentage for applicable fuel oils and choose between energy-saving or forest-derived J-Credits. Idemitsu Kosan, another Japanese company, has also launched similar products.

Certified – Sembcorp Development, the urban developer arm of Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries, has received pre‑certification for Vietnam’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) volume prototype covering ready‑built facilities, the firm said on Monday. The milestone will allow the company to accelerate the deployment of green industrial buildings across factories and warehouses under Sembcorp Integrated Hubs and Sembcorp Logistics Parks. This will give customers access to facilities designed and built to internationally recognised sustainability standards. Through the programme, sustainable strategies can be pre‑certified at the prototype stage, enabling faster rollouts.

Singapore is looking at prices of carbon credits in negotiations over imports of low-carbon electricity from Indonesia, as the city-state seeks a "commercially viable" cost for the cross-border power trade.

Battery bust - Installation rates for household batteries in Australia fell by 70% in May following federal government chances to tighten its Cheaper Home Batteries Program, ABC News reported. Clean Energy Regulator data shows the number of small-scale consumers installing a battery fell dramatically month-on-month after the government scaled back the rebates on offer for bigger systems. Some 20,000 batteries were installed in May, compared to more than 80,000 that were plugged in April. Energy experts said demand had been brought forward in the lead-up to the changes taking effect and demand would be more steady between now and 2030. Some 450,000 batteries have been installed under the scheme so far, with the government targeting 2 mln systems by the end of the decade.

BHP’s deferral of decarbonisation spending could increase its carbon costs by 48% to $16-28 billion by 2050, according to research published Monday, calling on the company to outline interim emissions reduction investment plans.

Bioenergy rollout - India’s state of Uttar Pradesh has laid out a plan to set up 1,000 mini biogas plants across the state. The report by Hans India stated that the detailed plan includes installing mini biogas plants in over 1,000 households across all districts of the state, which will include both fixed and portable plant models. The state will partner with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) to provide technical support for the rollout.

Reshuffle - Papua New Guinea's Lufa MP Simo Kilepa has lost his role as Minister for Environment, Conservation, and Climate Change, to be replaced by MP Salio Waipo, who will assume the position of Minister for Forests and Climate Change, according to a statement. Kilepa was appointed the role in 2022 and since then conducted major legislative reforms overhauling the country's carbon market rules as a way to encourage greater climate finance flows. A statement from the Climate Change Development Authority thanked Kilepa for his work and said they looked forward to working with the new minister. Kilepa was one of six ministers who were reshuffled by Prime Minister James Marape, according to local media.
