Donald Trump et al., a youth-led case challenging executive orders on US energy development, a national energy emergency, and the coal industry, the Department of Justice said Tuesday. Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Adam Gustafson said the court found the plaintiffs lacked standing because they did not show the executive orders caused injury or that any injury could be redressed by the courts.
- Tue 22:20Consider this - The US Chamber of Commerce told the Ninth Circuit that the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) May 29 proposal to rescind its 2024 climate-related disclosure rules strengthens its challenge to California’s SB 253, arguing the state law is broader than the SEC rules because it requires emissions reporting without the SEC rule’s materiality limits and ahead of an expected Aug. 10 compliance date. In a Monday filing, the plaintiffs said the SEC proposal undermines California’s argument that SB 253 is needed to protect investors, that emissions figures are objective, and that compelled corporate disclosure is necessary, citing the SEC’s view that its rules exceeded the agency’s authority, imposed unjustified costs, and should be withdrawn in full.
- Tue 22:18Consultation commencing - Canada’s Taxonomy and Transition Planning Council plans to release a consultation draft for its Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Methods and Frameworks Report on July 9, opening an approximately one-month feedback period. - Tue 03:12Fuel loan clarity – Industry body GasNZ has clarified with the New Zealand government that its NZ$48 mln ($28.4 mln) loan scheme to help businesses transition away from gas is not just for electrification, but could also be used to switch to coal, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), biomethane, or biogas, it said on Tuesday. Funded as part of the 2026 Budget, announced last week, the initiative is forecasted to unlock NZ$1.2 bln of bank loans. Activities supported by the scheme must reduce reticulated gas consumption by at least 15% while maintaining or increasing production. New Zealand is grappling with a shortage of gas supply and the government earlier this year announced plans to contract to build an LNG import terminal.
- Tue 02:42Unlikely buyer – Nicola Willis, New Zealand’s finance minister, said again it is very unlikely the country will buy international credits to meet its 2030 NDC when questioned on Q&A on Sunday, and suggested new pathways would emerge to uphold obligations, without elaborating. Interviewer Jack Tame pressed Willis on the matter, as it came just days after New Zealand backed a UN General Assembly resolution to endorse the ICJ’s climate opinion on states’ obligations on climate change, and on a lack of evidence that New Zealand can meet the 2030 targets absent international credits. Willis told Tame it was not a binary situation, to either reduce emissions domestically or buy international units. Last year, climate minister, Simon Watts, told Carbon Pulse that the focus is on cutting the country’s emissions first. Willis in Dec. 2025 told a Parliamentary committee that Treasury had not budgeted to purchase overseas credits as there was no legal obligation to meet the Paris Agreement targets.
- Tue 02:21Faster fuel - The New South Wales state government has introduced legislation designed to accelerate development of the renewable fuels industry, Earthed reported. The Electricity Supply Amendment (Renewable Fuel Scheme) Bill would amend the design of the state's existing Renewable Fuel Scheme, which currently only aims to incentivise the production of green hydrogen by requiring gas retailers to buy and surrender green hydrogen certificates. The bill introduces a mixed-fuel target to support renewable methane and green hydrogen as well as an early-mover green hydrogen target. It follows the NSW government committing A$40 mln ($28.6 mln) in grant funding to scale up the deployment of renewable methane production facilities.

The company has been conducting trials since February of its zeolite-based methane mitigation technology in partnership with Griffith University. The current field trial is designed to test the technology's performance under real operating conditions at an active regional landfill over a six-month period, with monitoring to continue to August, it said. While long-term data-sets are important, Zeotech said the results provide a strong early indication that the technology can offer landfill operators a practical and scalable pathway for cutting methane emissions.
