The countries have a pre-existing Article 6.2 bilateral agreement under Norway’s NOGER initiative, dating to Nov. 2024. The new programme will help Norway achieve its 2030 climate target, according to Norwegian Minister for Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen. Jordan also recently registered the Middle East’s first project under the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (PACM), a landfill gas project which has transitioned from the Kyoto-era Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

The shutdown affects LNG output as well as downstream products including urea, polymers, methanol and aluminum. The move places roughly a fifth of global LNG supply at risk if the disruption persists. QatarEnergy operates 14 LNG trains at Ras Laffan and is the world’s largest single LNG exporter.

- Wed 14:48The rain in Spain – A Spanish research team says it has invented a hybrid solar panel that turns raindrops into electricity, reports ZME Science. Researchers at the Institute of Materials Science of Seville in Spain have patented thin film that generates 110 volts from a single raindrop’s impact. By applying a specialised Teflon-like film just 100 nanometers thick to a high-efficiency perovskite solar cell, the researchers have created a panel that harvests light when it’s sunny and kinetic energy when it pours. When a droplet strikes and slides across the specially treated surface, it creates friction and has a charge difference. A droplet may leave behind a positive ion while the surface is negatively charged. The charge is then harvested and converted into electricity.
- Wed 14:18Simplifying science - UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched the first public beta chatbot designed to make environmental science easier to access and understand. EnvironmentGPT gives targeted responses according to a curated library of UNEP and select partner publications, and also shows confidence scores and the carbon footprint of each response. Users can also choose among several LLM models based on performance and energy efficiency. Ask a question here.
