- Mon 01:08PV pilot - The Australian government has committed A$24.7 mln ($16.5 mln) into a national pilot scheme to recycle solar panels as a way to reduce landfill and boost the availability of valuable minerals, it announced. As part of the pilot, the funding will be used to establish up to 100 collection sites across the country. A solar recycling scheme was recommended by the Productivity Commission, with the government noting panels contain valuable material and strategic minerals that can support the renewable energy transition. Currently, only 17% of solar panels are recycled and increasing this could unlock up to A$7.3 bln in benefits through reduced waste and reuse of materials.
