Canada’s Ontario is to publish the design of its cap-and-trade system by the end of the year, the province’s environment minster said on Wednesday, pushing back the initally planned October release by three months after the province received 17,000 responses to its consultation.
“We need some time to review the submissions. Then look at revisions based on them,” said Ontario’s environment ministry Glen Murray on Twitter, adding that the design was now due “by the end of the year.”
The province launched the six-month consultation process on April 13. It intends to link its ETS with the joint WCI California-Quebec market upon launch in late 2016 or early 2017.
