Half of Hungary’s EUA revenue went to national budget -media

Half of the cash Hungary has received from sales of EUAs since 2010 has been used to top up the national budget, news agency MTI said on Friday.

The total EUA revenue from 2010 to Sep. 2015 amounts to 66.5 billion forint (€213 million), state secretary András Tállai said in a written response to a question from a green party MP that was posted on the website of the Hungarian parliament.

Tállai said half went to the central budget, while a quarter went to R&D activities and pilot projects that reduce greenhouse gases, boost energy efficiency and support renewable energy resources.

Another quarter has gone towards programs that support environmentally-friendly investments, such as the construction of solar panels and the purchase of buses that run on compressed natural gas.

There are no EU-wide rules on EUA spending to 2020, only a recommendation that at least half of the cash should be spent on climate-related activities.
