A London-based emissions and energy trader has joined Freepoint Commodities, sources told Carbon Pulse, just weeks after taking a new role at another trading firm.

Andrew Gygax had started at MVAJET, the proprietary trading arm of London-headquartered investment advisor Curzon Securities, in June as an energy trader, but jumped ship some three weeks later to take up a senior cross-commodity trading role at Freepoint.

MVAJET declined to comment but a source said the company is looking to replace him.

MVAJET’s lead trader Mark Owen-Lloyd last month said the firm wants to add more staff to its growing energy prop trading desk.

Gygax, previously an executive director at JP Morgan, joins Freepoint just weeks after the departure of the firm’s former head of emissions trading Daniel Mulder.

According to industry news service Sparkspread, Freepoint has recently made several other energy trading hires in London, including Nicolay Janss Lafond, formerly with Mercuria Energy Group, who joined as a continental power trader, and Francois de Nanteuil, formerly a vice president of European power trading at Morgan Stanley.
