The VP Sustainability manager reports to Director -Sustainability and will be responsible for supporting the Sustainability team’s remit, including leading and programme managing the bank’s response to TCFD, and convening internal teams accordingly

The Sustainability team was created to ensure that Barclays has a proactive approach to the world’s biggest challenges, such as climate change, the environment and human rights. The team’s remit includes developing environmental and social policies, TCFD implementation, and NGO engagement and will work closely with other teams in the Corporate Relations department.
The VP Sustainability manager reports to Director -Sustainability and will be responsible for supporting the Sustainability team’s remit, including leading and programme managing the bank’s response to TCFD, and convening internal teams accordingly. Input will also be required into the development of policies and positions across different environmental and social areas, responding to external requirements across a range of different sustainability related topics.
Your Role
  • Lead and programme manage Barclays’ TCFD implementation project, including acting as secretariat to the internal TCFD Forum, stakeholder management across multiple teams and driving awareness raising and project management plans across the bank.
  • Liaise with government relations and regulatory relations on emerging policy developments across climate change, environment, and sustainable finance agendas.
  • Contribute to research, policy position development/refresh and training across current and emerging ESG issues,.
  • Provide advice to client-facing teams on sustainability related issues, including sensitive sectors, climate change and human rights and represent the team at relevant, internal decision-making fora
  • Work with corporate communications and media relations teams to develop messaging on sensitive issues.
  • Identify and develop collaboration opportunities on sustainability challenges with external stakeholders
  • Represent Barclays at external events on sustainability.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in corporate responsibility and sustainability issues and their relevance to financial services and banking, in particular climate change and the role of the industry in the transition to a low carbon economy
  • Comfortable with opining and challenging on complex issues, including with senior audiences
  • Experience of policy development and training
  • Experience of managing large, multi-team projects
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge and experience of TCFD and relevant reporting frameworks/benchmarks (for example, CDP)
  • revious experience of working “in-house” within a large, global organisation
  • Masters in a Sustainability or Finance related subject
