The Project Manager (Forest Restoration) will support the development and growth of one of ecosecurities most high-profile global projects: the Indigenous Peoples Forest Restoration Project in Bukidnon Province of the Philippines.

Job Summary

The Project Manager (Forest Restoration) will support the development and growth of one of ecosecurities most high-profile global projects: the Indigenous Peoples Forest Restoration Project in Bukidnon Province of the Philippines. The project aims to restore up to 27,000 hectares of ancestral domain lands owned by Indigenous Peoples, restore the habitats of Philippine Eagle, and provide economic opportunities to Indigenous Communities. We are a dynamic organization working hard to make positive changes in the world. This is a mid-level role to be based in Bukidnon. The role will report to the APAC Commercial Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure project success by working closely with indigenous communities, project partners, and government stakeholders to achieve the project’s aims and objectives.
  • Develop work plans and budgets with the project team and partners and manage its timely and transparent implementation and reporting.
  • Lead and supervise key project activities, including but not limited to the following:
  • The Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) process and stakeholder consultations and engagement.
  • Coordination and approvals/permits from government agencies.
  • Reforestation activities, including but not limited to nursery development, planting, and monitoring.
  • Synthesize data and information to support the development of project design documents and monitoring reports.
  • On-ground activities for project validation and verification.
  • Engage indigenous communities to ensure the project aims, design and implementation plans are communicated, and that formal and informal feedback is gathered, documented, and disseminated to the project team, partners, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Organize logistical, technical, and legal requirements to ensure smooth implementation of project activities.
  • Coordinate and update project partners, indigenous communities, and key government agencies on progress status updates, issues or challenges, and next steps through meetings and other forms of correspondence.
  • Manage the delivery of activities and outputs of project partners to ensure their activities and deliverables align with ecosecurities’ timelines and agreed scope of works.
  • Manage direct reports, including recruitment of new staff as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans by providing valuable insights and recommendations based on an understanding of stakeholder needs and interests.
  • Directly reports to the APAC Commercial Manager to ensure project milestones are achieved and issues or challenges are communicated and addressed.

  • Able and eager to work mobile and remotely from time to time to monitor the project implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree in natural resource management, environmental conservation or management, agro/forestry, ecology, economic/rural/community development, and other related fields.
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in local or regional languages in Bukidnon Province.
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in English.
  • Demonstrated work experience in forest landscape restoration, community based reforestation, community development, and other relevant fields.
  • Demonstrated work experience in project management and ability to lead a diverse team in implementing a natural resource management project.
  • Ability to network and engage current and new stakeholders, partners, and indigenous communities.
  • Flexibility to travel across multiple sites in Bukidnon Province.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software applications.

Desirable

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Local knowledge of stakeholders, as well as cultural, agricultural, and forest management in Bukidnon Province of the Philippines.
  • Familiarity and/or proficiency in technical software and tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, RStudio, and other similar platforms.
  • Carbon markets and carbon project development.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in project management, rural community development, natural resource management, forest landscape restoration, and agricultural development.
