The Community Coordinator will support the development and growth of one of ecosecurities most high-profile global projects: the Indigenous Peoples Forest Restoration Project in the Province of Bukidnon Province in the Philippines.

Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity to join one of the most established and high-growth companies in the carbon market. The Community Coordinator will support the development and growth of one of ecosecurities most high-profile global projects: the Indigenous Peoples Forest Restoration Project in the Province of Bukidnon Province in the Philippines. The project aims to restore up to 27,000 hectares of ancestral domain lands owned by Indigenous Peoples, restore the habitats of Philippine Eagle, and provide opportunities to Indigenous Communities. We are a dynamic organization working hard to make positive changes in the world. This is a junior-level role to be based in Bukidnon, reporting to the role of Project Manager (Forest Restoration).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) related processes, in coordination with project partners, are conducted in a timely, transparent, and well documented manner. The following are the key activities:
  • Collect socioeconomic and community data, indigenous knowledge systems and practices, and other information relevant to the project.
  • Conduct community-level activities, including but not limited to consultation meetings and benefit-sharing discussions.
  • Review, develop and/or update Ancestral Domain Sustainable Development Plans (ADSDPP), Exercise of Priority Rights Plan (EPR Plan), and other community documents for the project.
  • Coordinate with project partners, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Collate and submit government requirements for the FPIC process.
  • Build and foster relationships with indigenous communities, project partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Gather community feedback and concerns and communicate with project team and partners to develop solutions.
  • Monitor and report the implementation of benefit sharing with the community in accordance with the plan and agreed structure.
  • Document key observations and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans by providing valuable insights and recommendations based on your understanding of stakeholder needs and interests.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders with diverse backgrounds.
  • Professional demeanor, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality when required.
  • Able and eager to work mobile and remotely from time to time to monitor the project implementation
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree in community development, social science, sociology, or other related fields;
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in local or regional language in Bukidnon Province.
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in English.
  • Demonstrated extensive work experience in community program development, community engagement, and other relevant fields.
  • Ability to network and engage current and new stakeholders, partners, and indigenous communities.
  • Flexibility to travel across multiple sites in Bukidnon Province.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software applications.

Desirable

  • Experience in securing a Certificate of Pre-Condition from the NCIP.
  • Local knowledge of stakeholders, as well as cultural, agricultural, and forest management in Bukidnon Province of the Philippines.
  • Carbon markets and carbon project development.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in community development work, community based programs, and other related fields.
