The Carbon Initiative Lead - India will be responsible to operationalize and scale the sustainable rice carbon initiative over the next 10 years (i.e., to 300k ha by 2025 and to 1.5m ha by 2032). This position will help shape the initiative and drive implementation in close collaboration with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, commercial leaders, and investors.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Carbon Initiative Lead – India will be responsible to operationalize and scale the sustainable rice carbon initiative over the next 10 years (i.e., to 300k ha by 2025 and to 1.5m ha by 2032).

This position will help shape the initiative and drive implementation in close collaboration with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, commercial leaders, and investors.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and management of the India carbon initiative to deliver Bayer’s commercial and sustainability objectives
  • Build a dedicated and high-performance Carbon team from the ground up, being able to attract the right talent with the required knowledge
  • Build revenue and resource plans and needs to successfully develop and implement carbon programs
  • Manage the initiative’s key operational elements particularly field teams, implementing partners, farmer training, MRV, budgeting, and carbon registry processes
  • Collaborate with agronomic experts to refine the package of practices to improve carbon yields and farmer productivity
  • Ensure strict compliance with data privacy regulations and carbon standards to generate high quality carbon credits
  • Capitalize on opportunities to leverage other Bayer programs (e.g., Direct Acres) to advance regenerative agriculture and improve smallholder livelihoods
  • Support government engagement to shape a supportive policy environment for voluntary carbon credits and facilitate partnerships with governments
  • Provide support to regional and country teams exploring and developing new carbon projects elsewhere in APAC
  • Explore other opportunities for carbon models in India beyond rice (e.g., sugarcane)
  • Establish Bayer as a sustainability thought leader through strategic engagement with global thought leaders, industry bodies and external forums
