About the Role

The Carbon Analyst is a newly created position within the Energy Trading team.

This role will primarily support AGL’s greenfield carbon project development opportunities and will be responsible for conducting detailed qualitative and commercial assessments, carrying out due diligence across investment proposals, identifying new development opportunities and reporting on progress against the carbon project pipeline.

What you’ll be doing:

• Undertake commercial assessment of greenfield development opportunities, including development of financial models to determine project and equity returns
• Provide analysis around carbon project planning requirements based on legislative and compliance obligations, primarily under existing ERF methodologies
• Support due diligence, planning and development activities on new carbon projects e.g. developing carbon yield profiles, preparing registration documentation, preparing planning documentation
• Support project quality reviews on bespoke carbon offtake projects and provide risk assessment of methods/regions under various schemes e.g. domestic ACCU projects and international VER and VCU projects
• Collaborate with Market Modelling and Environmental Trading teams to develop market and portfolio insights
• Collaborate with Origination team to support contracting and negotiation with counterparties
• Prepare materials to present to senior stakeholders e.g. GMs, Investment Committee/Executive Team and Board
• Present to key internal stakeholders (e.g. Trading, IPP, CM)
• Support development of customer facing materials e.g. marketing materials in relation to new carbon projects
• Liaise with external stakeholders to undertake quality reviews

About You

What you’ll bring to the table:

• A degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Environmental/Sustainability Studies or other relevant tertiary qualification
• Pprofessional experience, including tenure in the sustainability or energy industry
• Experience with the development or operations of carbon projects, ideally in a project management capacity
• In depth understanding of the domestic carbon regulatory landscape/scheme design and good understanding of global carbon markets – how they work, key developments, unknowns and risks
• Able to communicate and understand implications of technical parameters on commercial outcomes
