Main Purpose of Job

This role requires experience and/or aptitude with carbon and energy efficiency markets – the purpose is to position the firm in the climate change business, make visible its name and credentials and engage in communication efforts led from the head office.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting/Engineering or related field
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience along with prior experience in Carbon offset project development and market trade

Specialized Technical Capabilities

  • Business development and marketing for various Carbon commodities such as CERs, VERs, etc from our client portfolio of projects
  • Building relationships and networks with end-users and buyers of such commodities with the South African carbon tax regime
  • The person would also be responsible for building the firm’s Climate consulting & advisory customer base
  • The candidate will represent the firm at conferences, engage with stakeholders and the carbon market community, be up to speed with international regulatory policy developments and impact on South African carbon-offset projects
  • The candidate will be responsible for the development of turnkey carbon offset solutions consisting of identifying and screening qualifying projects, development of suitable CDM, VCS or Gold Standard methodologies, registration of projects and transfer of offsets within the South African registry

Technical Competencies

  • A good understanding of  mechanical, electronic, chemical, civil and general engineering principles
  • An understanding of renewable energy principles would also be an advantage
  • must have own transport
  • Practical experience in identifying & resolving technical challenges
  • Project management skills
  • An understanding of innovation
  • Strong Microsoft excel, project skills
