Principal – Corporate Sustainability (100%)

based in New York City, US

As part of the Corporate Risks and Opportunities team within the Consultancy & Services Unit, you will lead all consulting mandates in the US. You will focus on the delivery of high quality consultancy advice on climate change mitigation solutions to the corporate sector, and be responsible for the management of project teams. As a Principal, you will also lead the development of proposals and participate in business development activities and new service creation. You will take responsibility for the quality and the commercial viability of the engagements and helps South Pole to strengthen its leading market position as provider of sustainability solutions.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, management and execution of consulting mandates with necessary know-how and skill set to ensure the most efficient and 
highest quality implementation
  • Provide supervision, guidance and technical leadership in international consulting mandates
  • Develop new consulting business and opportunities in the US corporate sector and closely collaborate with the US Key Account Management team
  • Interact with and build relationships with clients and contribute to the successful delivery of corporate consulting mandates
  • Participate in client facing events, conferences and meetings, to speak about relevant topics and represent South Pole and its services
  • Contribute to the development of thought leadership, services and marketing materials with US market focus to further develop our corporate offerings
  • Lead and potentially directly manage small consultant teams
  • Topics of consulting mandates may include: Corporate climate strategies, GHG (Greenhouse gasses) accounting and disclosure, climate change mitigation, Science Based Targets (SBTs), risk assessment and TCFD (Task force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure), materiality assessment, energy efficiency, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), Sustainable Development Goals, renewable energy strategy, etc.

Your profile

  • A University degree, ideally in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Energy Engineering, Economics or sustainability-related disciplines
  • At least 8-10 years of relevant work experience in the corporate sector at least partly in corporate consulting
  • Sound understanding of environmental sustainability challenges in multinational companies
  • Specific consultancy experience in:
    • Sustainability and corporate risks
    • Consultancy for corporate clients, particularly in topics related to GHG accounting, reduction, mitigation and disclosure, energy efficiency and renewable energy strategy
    • Developing corporate climate change strategies
  • Experienced project manager in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies/international context
  • Commercial skills and good business sense to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a challenging and competitive market environment
  • Leadership and strategic management experience is of advantage
  • Practical experience in sustainability strategy, GHG management, adaptation, change management is desirable
  • Proven knowledge and network in the relevant fields
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English (mother tongue or equivalent) is a must
  • Professional proficiency in one of the following languages is of advantage: Spanish, German, French
  • National, or holder of a valid required work visa
