China approves 10th verifier for carbon offset market

The NDRC has accredited China Building Materials Certification & Inspection Group as a verifier of offset credits to the nation’s carbon market, taking the number of qualified auditors to 10.

The NDRC has accredited China Building Materials Certification & Inspection Group as a verifier of offset credits to the nation’s carbon market, taking the number of qualified auditors to 10.

China has so far approved 501 projects to generate Chinese Certified Emissions Reductions (CCERs) for the seven pilot markets and the national emissions trading scheme that will launch next year.

And with hundreds of new projects seeking approval, the need for qualified verifiers is rapidly increasing.

But the government has so far declined to accredit any foreign verification firms in a bid to protect the confidential data of its domestic firms.
